My entry in the intel sports inventor competition

I had posted earlier that Intel was running a competition where you could suggest some revolutinary changes in a sport of your choice.there was a limit of 400 words.

here's my entry

"In spite of all the big money flowing into football, incorrect referee decisions continue to dog the game. Several crucial matches have been lost due to human error. From Maradona’s infamous ‘Hand of God’ to Thierry Henry’s handball on Nov 18 which, knocked Ireland out of the 2010 world cup, the financial impact of these decisions has increased manifold over the years.

  1. cool and real expensive one Subbu.. do you imagine the cost of infrastructure you're asking over here? Especially the Offside one. You need hundreds of cameras to cover every inch and every angle of the field.
I think, covering if the opponent was ahead of the defender at the exact moment when the ball was passed, wouldn't be an easy job to accomplish through wires and chips. And not to mention the need of AI to determine if the pass was intended to the player and if he played that shot or not.

Technology certainly can leverage the human decision but I think its part and parcel of the game. We certainly should have more of technology involved but technology completely replacing humans still is a fancy idea to me :)...

    Cheers Mate!

you are right . There would definetley be a cost factor involved but still i feel if carried out on a piece meal basis these ideas can be brought into the game overthe next 25 years or so...mind you i think american rugby is already using something of this nature...will try to dig up something on this
