La Liga puts strike plan on hold

Spain’s La Liga is to intensify discussions with the government over plans to scrap tax breaks for high-earning players

Spain’s top flight football league has threatened to suspend matches following a government decision to abolish a law that allows international professionals who earn more than €600,000 ($905,000) to pay only 24 per cent tax instead of the 43 per cent charged to local citizens.

La Liga’s general assembly said recent conversations with the government indicated a compromise can be reached
